A used crawler can be the best value in lifting equipment or the most expensive mistake on your balance sheet. The difference is usually four or five components that are costly to fix and easy to overlook.

Track shoes and undercarriage first, because a full undercarriage rebuild can cost a quarter of the machine value. Then the slew ring: rock the boom and measure backlash against the manufacturer tolerance. Then hoist ropes, boom section wear pads, hydraulic drift under held load, engine blow-by, the rated capacity limiter calibration, boom section straightness, and finally the paperwork.
The section set matters
Confirm which lattice boom sections come with the machine. A crawler sold without its full insert set looks cheap until you price replacements from the manufacturer.
